Rosie kicked the pony into trot. Lindsay was surprised good he was being since he hadn't been riden since she bought him. "Good. Do you think you could canter?" Lindsay shouted down the arena. Rosie nodded, sat still in the saddle then kicked the gelding on. He swiftly changed gait into a perfect, smooth cater. "What about jumping?" Lindsay asked as she came closer.
"I'll give it a try." she said slowing down. Lindsay quickly made a grid of two jumps and two ground poles. "Do it in canter." she said watching the girl square up for the jumps. "Okay." she said urging the pony once again. He obeyed and headed towards the first small jump. They both glided over the jumps and then turned in, "Higher." Rosie grinned. Lindsay nodded and raised the bar another two holes. Cantering in a circle they headed for the jumps eagarly. Rosie bent forward keeping her heels down and grabbed a hold of his mane. Boo spun a little but still jumped it causing Rosie to loose a stirrup. "Kick him on." Lindsay said knowing she was capable of still jumping it. Rosie didn't listen and pulled back on the reins. Boo pulled back and backed out of the grid. Rosie tried to turn him but by this time he was already heading away from the jumps. Rosie pulled her crop out of her boot and sharply whipped behind the saddle. He threw his head up, flashing the whites of his eyes. "Rosie!" Lindsay warned watching the frightened pony showing signs of rearing. Rosie didn't hear and kicked his sides hard with her heels. Boo reared in fright the loose stirrup flying around. He bolted into gallop and Rosie frantically tried to restrain him. Quickly she fell from the saddle and slipped down to the ground. Boo continued to run but Lindsay knew he couldn't escape. She ran to Rosie who began to get up. She brushed down her dirty clothes, red in the face. "Stupid Pony!" she screamed flashing her whip.
"It's not his fault. You didn't listen to what I told you. You scared him." she scauled. Rosied looked ashamed and her face quickly returned to it's normal color. Boo was stood in a corner breathing heavily. Rosie slowly walked over to the pony, dropping the whip. She stroked his nose softly and whispered her apology into his flickering ear. In return he nuzzled her face, making her giggle. Lindsay sighed and looked outside, "Come on. Let's take him back." she smiled walking over to her neice and pony.
