Walking out to check on all the horses, Luke was thinking of many things. A few new horses had arrived and he had to be sure everything was together. He picked up the feed bucket and walked down the barn giving everyone their evening feed. Everything seemed to be going well until he scooped feed into Celia's stall. The arab mare stared Luke down and flattened herears against her head. She squealed and pawed at the ground with wild eyes. Luke looked at her confsed. She had been bred to his stud awhile back but was no where near ready to foal. He stood there awhile watching the crazy mare. As he turned to leave something caught his eyes. At first it seemed as though just a dark spot in the corner of the stall but then Luke saw something move. What he saw was the tiny ear of a small foal flicker. He trotted back to the stall and squinted his eyes trying to get a good look but Celia was gaurding the foal with her life. He sighed and tried to calm the mare down but she would have nothing of it. The foal seemed weak and wasn't trying to get up and that worried him but he'd wait a few hours to see what would happen.

A few hours later Luke returned to the stall with a lead. The foal seemed to have gotten up but still looked pretty weak. He had to get the mare out and see how bad the foal really was. The mare flattened her ears when Luke walked to the stall and snorted her nostrils flaring. He quickly snapped the led onto the mare's halter and led her out. She reared up but Luke persisted and pulled the angry mare down to the foaling barn. Retuning after he had her settle, he looked into the stall. The foal had gotten up and stood on wobbly legs looking up at him. He walked slowly towards it and the foal bobbed it's head and attempted a step forward. Getting closer Luke saw it was a very handsom bay colt. He was small and weak but Luke hoped he could pull through. He threw some extra straw down to keep him warm and thought about calling the vet. Maybe the mare wasn't nursing him and if that was the case this was going to be a long road.
